Well, another long drive for Riot-A-Go-Go. We got up early and after showering, primping, and deorderizing at Dan's house we were on our way to Fort Collins. I'm not sure if we went over the rockies or around them, but it was a great 8 hour drive to Fort Collins, Colorodo. Once again another scorcher, but the van has got killer AC so we did not melt.
Fort Collins is a pretty cool town, kind of like Santa Cruz, but cleaner and with more trees. A little like Eugene Oregon if you've ever been there, a college town, I think University of Colorodo. We got to The Starlight pretty early, around 7 and were greeted by Kevin, who helps run The Starlight and the sound guy, who's name I can't remember, but is really rad guy as well. The Starlight is a club, kind of a mix between Bottom of The Hill and Slims, pretty big with an amazing sound system. We were very excited about this show, it looked like it was going to be a good one and it was all ages. As were finding out going cross country SF is really weak with all ages venues compared to most towns. I guess it's the high rent, so you need the bar money, but it's amazing to be playing these all ages shows and meet all these great kids who are so stoked to hear music.
We ended up having to go up first, even though we were the touring band, but that's okay we here at Riot-A-Go-Go are not rock stars and will play anytime. There was a good amount of people there for us and we played great, people were into it and were very friendly. The next band, Heartfelt Bastard, were a local band and were having there CD release party. The headlining band were from Colorodo Springs, about an hour from FT. Collins, they were called The Mansfields. They were great guys, really down to earth and sweet, we wish them nothing but the best of luck. They killed, with a sound that I guess is like Social Distortion meets The New York Dolls meets The Ramones, a mix of punk, rock, and trash. They had the fog machines and strobe lights out in effect. It was great to play with them and to play at The Starlight, great venue and amazing people.
After the show we went across the street to grab some grub and I saw Karl Alvarez from The Descendents/All, I didn't say anything because I'm a huge pussy, but evidently I found out this morning that he was at the show the whole time. We crashed with Kevin, who was very cool. He has a cool house nearby with all these cool posters and a huge amount of rad CD's. He made us a big breakfast and let us take showers and was overall an amazing guy and is doing some cool shit at The Starlight. Fort Collings is a cool town, thanks to Kevin and Jeremy for booking the show, I hope we can return soon and maybe meet all of The Descendents. Today were chilling here and have a short drive back to Laramie, WY. Have a rad day,
Matt
